History Of Our Club

Our History
The North Shore Citizen Band Radio Club Inc., started with a small group of like minded C.B.ers meeting in late 1976 and became an Incorporated Society in mid 1977. The Club grew rapidly over the first twelve months, attaining a membership of 140.

The first President was Murray Brown (the then AK3929) and the Vice President was John Jones (the then AK1104) - known to most as `Doctor John'. We still have a founder member currently among our members, AK4985 - Barry Hamblin, known as Putt Putt.

Our other longest serving member is Brian Fryer AK1929, who is our Communications Co-ordinator and CBRANZ (Citizen Band Radio Association of New Zealand) representative.

Over the years the Club has had it's fair share of ups and downs with membership fluctuating from as little as 20 to as many as 300, in line with the popularity of C.B. as a whole. Our membership currently stands at just over 42 (March 2007), and our members can be found in Auckland, Paeroa, Greymouth, Waiheke Island, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Dunedin and as far afield as Australia.

Communications Team
Our Communications Team provides communications for Clubs or Organisations who require communication between control points for their events. We provide `point to point' communications and also provide equipment and information for a multitude of organisations.

Club Meetings
Our Club Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.45 p.m. at the North Shore Civil Defence, 400 East Coast Road, Mairangi Bay, Auckland. Admission is free for the first visit, subsequent visits and members $2.50, 5-15 yrs inclusive $2.00. Click on our CONTACTS link below for the location of our club rooms.

Club Magazine
We produce a monthly magazine `Ten Four'. This is posted to all our members and to C.B. Clubs throughout New Zealand. We attempt to produce a magazine which people will want to read. Apart from the usual reports from the Committee, we have `Shore Talk' - our `hot gossip column' about our members and the exploits they get up to; informative articles and all those funny (and sometimes naughty) bits to bring a smile to your face.
